Admissions Telephone Session
At Michael's House, we want to make you feel comfortable and safe on our campus and make the admissions process as easy as possible. The admissions process generally begins with a telephone conversation with a certified counselor who will assess your medical, behavioral, and social background to help determine the best course of treatment. We encourage you to ask questions about our program, facility, treatment, or any other concerns.
Once your initial call has been completed, we will contact your insurance carrier, review your coverage, and explain your financial responsibilities. If you require transportation to our Palm Springs, CA center, affordable transportation options may be available upon request.
Arriving at Michael's House – Intake Process
Upon arriving at Michael's House, you will be greeted by one of our counselors. You will participate in the intake process, where you will meet one-on-one with a certified intake counselor. You will be asked about your addiction history and what you would like to accomplish while in treatment. You can explain when your substance abuse issues began and what might have led to your addiction.
Be sure to inform your counselor about any underlying health issues, which is especially important if you have a mental health disorder, such as depression or PTSD. There is no judgment; we want to provide you with the most comprehensive treatment plan to suit your individual needs.
Our counselor will assess the severity of your addiction based on your answers to these questions. It also helps the treatment center determine the optimal course of action for your treatment, as each client’s program is tailored to their specific needs.
Medical Assessment
After you meet with a counselor, you will meet with a member of our medical team to assess your physical wellness and evaluate your current state. You will be required to give information about your medical history. Let the medical professional know if you have any underlying medical issues such as high blood pressure, asthma, or hepatitis. You will be asked to take a detox screening test to determine if you have recently used drugs or alcohol. If there is any concern about your current condition, you may be brought to a medical facility to be monitored and stabilized, then return to Michael’s House for treatment.
Our team of medical professionals will be responsible for your medical care, and they may provide you with additional testing to evaluate any other health problems. Please provide them with any prescriptions you have. They will keep the medications in the facility’s pharmacy and ensure you get the required medications each day. You will not be allowed to keep them with you but will meet regularly with physicians who will monitor your condition.
Getting Settled
A Residential Counselor will greet and welcome you to Michael's House. For your safety, all your personal items are gone through, as well as your clothing and other personal belongings. Upon review, we will place your items in your new room. Certain things will be secured for your stay, such as your mobile phone, wallet, and other valuables. These items will be secured in a safe and made available to you as needed.
If you arrive after hours, your admissions process will be abbreviated depending on the time of your arrival. A Residential Counselor and a member of our nursing staff will greet you and will conduct a medical review. Our team will also provide you with a meal, give you a tour, a program schedule, and go through your belongings. The following morning, an admissions team member will meet with you and complete your intake process. Our Counselors are on-site and available 24 hours a day to encourage, support, and meet your needs.
During Your Stay
Our dining room is in the center of our campus. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be served throughout the day, and our dining room also provides healthy and nourishing snacks to enjoy.
During your stay at Michael's House, you will be encouraged to interact with your peers and have the opportunity to attend the following types of groups.
- Individual sessions with a therapist
- Process groups with a therapist and your peers, five days a week
- A robust, educational, and diverse offering of groups on recovery-themed topics and therapeutic approaches, such as DBT with your peers, will be facilitated each day by various qualified counselors
- Offsite recreational activities and adventures
- Offsite 12-Step Meetings
As you progress through your treatment, our Patient Care Counselors will meet with you to address any issues you may have concerning insurance, short-term disability, and setting up an after-care plan.
After Care and Alumni Program
Once you complete a treatment program at Michael's House, our relationship with you has just begun. At Michael's House, we focus on your success and provide an alumni program to help you stay connected with others in recovery. Our alumni community is full of dedicated individuals who provide positive and motivational support to other alumni in recovery and share their experiences, strength, and hope.
